Craft classes listed below will be held on their regular schedule.  Participants will pay an instruction fee of $15 per month, which will be used as a match for a grant to provide the program.  This program is supported by the Caldwell Arts Council and by a grant from the Grassroots Arts Program of the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.

This grant funding is greatly appreciated, as it helps seniors with

MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLANS

The open enrollment period for Medicare Prescription Drug Plans is November 15-December 31 each year.  If you are satisfied with your current plan, you do not need to do anything.  It will continue to provide your coverage in the following year unless you change plans.

If your current plan does not cover your needs and you want to look at other plans in the next open enrollment period, our staff can help compare plans.

People who are new to Medicare can enroll in a plan three months prior to their effective date for Medicare, in the month they become effective, or three months following that month.  They have a seven month window to enroll.

The Medicare website helps narrow the choice of plans in North Carolina to the least expensive 3 that will provide your medicines.

If you need assistance choosing a plan, come by the senior center to pick up a form that will give us the list of your medicines.  We will schedule an appointment for one of our prescription drug clinics or call you when you can pick up your comparison.  A link to the form follows:

If you or someone in your family has access to the internet, you can do an online comparison for prescription drug plans for 2009 at www.medicare.gov.  Instructions can be found at the link below:

MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLANS (Medicare Part C).  A large number of Medicare Advantage plans are available in Caldwell County.  These plans are either Private-Fee-For Service, Health Maintenance Organization, or Preferred Provider Organization types.  Some charge a monthly fee, and some don't.  Any cost is in addition to your monthly Medicare premium.  These plans take the place of traditional Medicare (Parts A and B) and a Medicare Supplement plan.  More information about these types of plans are in the Medicare and You 2009 handbook.

You can also get much information about Medicare and plans on the Senior Health Insurance Information website,
